U.S. Embassy offer inicial aid for Hurricane Félix’s Victims.
September 4, 2007
The U.S.A. Embassy expressed our solidarity with the Nicaraguan people for the damage caused by Hurricane Félix. Because of the huge humanitarian needs that the local and affected communities are expressing, principally, in the north and northeast of Nicaragua, the United States Government activated our Emergency System. The Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) is the office within USAID responsible for facilitating and coordinating U.S. Government emergency assistance overseas. OSDA had approved a initial non reimbursable donation of $25,000 today, and we are asking for additional funds for $150,000.
Few weeks ago, the US Embassy, through the Red Cross, donated 1,066 kitchen “kits” and healthy articles for $45,000 dollars that were store in the warehouse of Bluefields and Puerto Cabezas anticipating the hurricane season. These materials can benefit around 1,000 families and they will be distributed by the Nicaraguan Red Cross.
Because of the difficult situation of the people, the United States Government of America is going to provide more aid base in people’s needs. A helicopter CH-47 of the United States Army will arrive to Nicaragua coming from Soto Cano, a military base in Honduras.
