U.S. Embassy Congratulates the Nicaraguan National Police on its 28th Anniversary
September 4, 2007
The Embassy of the United States of America in Nicaragua wishes to congratulate the Nicaraguan National Police on the occasion of its 28th Anniversary. We celebrate the many achievements of the National Police and reaffirm our commitment to the longstanding and fruitful partnership that our two countries have built to combat the shared threats of narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, arms trafficking and organized crime.
To aid in these efforts, the people of the United States of America have donated nearly $6 million in assistance through the U.S. International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Office of the Department of State over the last ten years. We especially thank the Nicaraguan National Police for their cooperation on drug seizure programs such as upgrading the vehicle inspection facilities in Peñas Blancas and in establishing drug use reduction programs for youth in the Atlantic Coast. We congratulate the Police on their impressive seizures this year of over 13,000 kilograms of cocaine and 84 kilograms of heroin. The Police have also successfully worked with the U.S. Embassy on anti-corruption and civic education programs for youth in Managua and in public campaigns to remove weapons of war from Nicaragua and register legal weapons.
The people of the United States of America intends to continue offering assistance to the Nicaraguan National Police in the fight against those who would threaten the security, peace, and prosperity of our nations.
