WARDEN mESSAGES

Local Flooding and Worldwide Caution Flooding in Nicaragua

As the continuous rainfall is likely to continue into the weekend, the Embassy would like to take this opportunity to inform you that there has been some flooding both in and outside of Managua.  One of the most affected areas is Chinandega and neighboring Puerto Sandino. Other affected areas are El Sábalo, some portions of Granada, Villa Sandino (Managua) and San Francisco el Carnicero.  There is some concern that a storm system that is forming in Venezuela and Puerto Rico could reach Nicaragua this weekend and with the soils so saturated, it could become a problem.
It is important that you review emergency preparedness procedures and stock up on some essentials.  You can find more information on emergency plans and supply kits at the following U.S. government website: http://www.ready.gov.  We recommend that you check the Embassy website periodically for coming updates on disaster preparedness.
