U.S. Embassy calls for implementation of judicial order

December 18, 2007

The United States Embassy in Managua notes that on the morning of December 17, 2007, the Appeals Court in Granada, Nicaragua revoked the murder conviction of U.S. citizen Eric Volz.  The decision ordered he be set free from prison, and that his passport and bond be returned.  We expect Nicaraguan authorities to implement this decision as soon as possible.

We trust Nicaraguan authorities will assure the safety and welbeing of Mr. Volz while he is in their custody.  We expect Nicaraguan authorities to respect internacional conventions regarding access for the detained to consular officials and legal counsel while the Granada Appeals Court decision is being implemented.
