U.S. Embassy Congratulates the Nicaraguan Army on its 28th Anniversary
August 31, 2007
The Embassy of the United States of America in Nicaragua wishes to congratulate the Nicaraguan Army on the occasion of its 28th Anniversary. We are pleased with the close and positive working relationship that has developed between our countries over the years. Over the last year the people of the United States have donated nearly $5 million in material and humanitarian assistance through the U.S. Southern Command.
We thank the Nicaraguan armed forces for their support of humanitarian assistance missions this year, without which the following projects would not have been possible:
• New Horizons 2007 – Juntos Podemos in Carazo
• Visit of the H.S.V.2 Swift to Puerto Cabezas
• Visit of the U.S.N.S. Comfort (Hospital Ship) to Corinto
• MEDRETE in communities surrounding El Rama
• Visit of the U.S.S. Pearl Harbor to Corinto
This close collaboration between the U.S. and Nicaraguan armed forces has allowed us to provide free medical services to over 30,000 Nicaraguans through medical brigade work in Carazo, El Rama, and Corinto, construct two schools and three medical clinics and two water wells in 2007.
We will continue to offer the Nicaraguan Army our good will, friendship and cooperation.
