Warden Message
The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Nicaragua would like to bring to the attention of American citizens residing or traveling in Nicaragua the following message distributed via the Consular Warden System of the U.S. Embassy in Managua, Nicaragua:
Nicaragua Warden Message on 2007 Hurricane Season
August 20, 2007
Information has circulated regarding the progress of hurricane “Dean” and even though Nicaragua is not directly in its path, it is advisable to monitor its progress particularly as it gets closer to the Nicaraguan coast. Updates on the storm are available from the National Hurricane Center’s website at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov and on the Department of State’s website at www.travel.state.gov. This is also a good time for you to review hurricane emergency preparedness procedures and stock up on some essentials, if you do not have them already.
The U.S. State Department recently released a Public Announcement on the 2007 Hurricane Season, which can be found here:
http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_3245.html#
Information on hurricanes and storm preparedness may be found in the “Hurricane Season-Know Before You Go” pamphlet at: http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/hurricane_season/hurricane_season_2915.html,
and on the “Natural Disasters” page of the Bureau of Consular Affairs’ website at: http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/emergencies/emergencies_1207.html.
U.S. citizens are strongly encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the Department of State’s travel registration website at https://travelregistration.state.gov. Registration will make your presence and whereabouts known. While Consular Officers will do their utmost to assist Americans in a crisis, travelers should always be aware that local authorities bear primary responsibility for the welfare of people living or traveling in their jurisdictions.
