Immigrant Visas

Applying for the Immigrant Visa

Documents for a Visa Application

The petitioner/sponsor must provide an Affidavit of Support, Form I-864 and Income Taxes. All applicants must submit certain personal documents such as passports, birth certificates, police certificates, and other civil documents. The consular officer will inform visa applicants of the documents needed as their applications are processed.

Medical Examinations

Before the issuance of an immigrant visa, every applicant, regardless of age, must undergo a medical examination. Costs for this examination must be borne by the applicant, in addition to the visa fees. The medical examination must be performed by one of three approved panel physicians in Managua. The medical examination cannot be performed by the applicant's own physician. Click here for panel physicians' list.

The medical examination results must be presented at the visa interview the day of the appointment.
The medical examination consists of a chest X-ray and blood test, which includes testing for HIV infection (AIDS) and venereal disease. The blood test and X-ray are generally not required for those who are under the age of 14 on the date of the appointment.

On the day of the medical examination, the physician will be required to verify that the immigrant visa applicant has met the vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate for the applicant to receive one or more of the following vaccinations: Mumps; Measles; Rubella; Polio; Tetanus; Diphtheria; Pertussis, Influenza, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and Pneumococcal. You can find the updated list of Immigrant Visa Vaccinations at:

http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_1331.html.

Note: K and V visa applicants will not be required to meet the vaccination requirements at the time of the visa interview. However, they will be required to meet the requirements at the time they apply for adjustment of status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services once they are in the United States.

Fees:

Vaccination Requirements and Medical Examination fees:
US$ 220.00 - US$ 400.00

Fees must be paid in cash at the time of the medical examination.

Miscellaneous

Since no advance assurances can be given that a visa will be issued, applicants are advised not to make any final travel arrangements, not to dispose of their property, and not to give up their jobs until visas have been issued to them. An immigrant visa can be valid for six months from date of issuance.
