U.S. Embassy Press Statement For Immediate release

November 3, 2006

The United States Embassy confirms that there was a fire in the U.S. Agency for International Development building in Managua.  The fire started at approximately 6:15 am on Friday, November 3.  The Embassy wishes to thank the Managua firefighters for their prompt response, in particular, Jaime Delgado, head of the volunteer force.  The fire caused damage to part of the second floor.  There were no injuries.  The cause is still being investigated, but appears to have been caused by an electrical shortage.  The building is closed for repairs until further notice.  USAID regrets any inconvenience to their development partners.
